About

Kate Soltan is an Edinburgh-based photographer, journalist, social entrepreneur, teacher and graduate of the Warsaw University and Edinburgh College. Her life revolves around language, photography, visual arts and community projects and she enjoys creating spaces where these areas intersect. Throughout her career she has been involved in multiple photographic and literary projects and led art workshops for children from different walks of life, both in Poland and Scotland. She writes mostly for Sens Magazine, occasionally popping up on zwierciadlo.pl website. She has also written for Art&Business Magazine and offered freelance editing and proofreading services for numerous Polish authors. As a photographer she loves photographing seemingly obvious things, plants and people. She is especially drawn into cyanotypes as this technique creates space for more organic interaction with the images. As a co-founder of Visual Literacy Matters CIC, which supports and advocates visual literacy through educational projects and active engagement with visual forms of communication and expression, she strongly believes that visual language can be helpful in areas where verbal communication is difficult or insufficient.
